Quiet, Secure Ride

The 3/4" thick jaw on the Patriot is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.


In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Patriot has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.


Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Patriot is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.


The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".


Easily Adjustable Design

The B&W Patriot can be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you the cab clearance needed to execute turns while towing.

To adjust either the height of the Patriot or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base. The above diagram gives an indication of where to mount the arms so that you get the height and the cab clearance that you need.

Hello, neighbors, this is Brad here at "etrailer," and today, we're taking a look at the BMW Patriot replacement head assembly for the Patriot fifth wheel. Now whether you're replacing a damaged head that you had on your Patriot, or you just wanna refresh what you currently have, or even if you have a bunch of trucks in the fleet, and don't wanna buy the whole assembly, you can simply swap this head back and forth to each vehicle, and having that replacement head is a great option. That way you're not having to buy the full fifth wheel kit. Now it's gonna have all the same functions as the previous Patriot head that you had. So you still have that locking jaw, you still have that nice handles to drop it in place. It goes around those urethane bushings, and overall, just a great head.

If you've ever used a Patriot before, you know right away that it's really great to use. It's super easy and it articulates enough. So even on unlevel ground hooking up or unhooking is no problem. And just as you did before to drop your new head on, it's gonna go on just like you had your previous fifth wheel. (metal clanking) Just right there.

Drop in place, pull your handle back, hook up to your kingpin, and you're ready to go. Now this is gonna be a perfect replacement for the 18K that we have here, as well as your sliding 18K and also the 16K. Now as you've probably seen before, BMW has that nice gray powder coat finish, and it feels durable and feels great. All the touchpoints are really nice on here. And your cam-actuating handle here is really nice for that jaw.

It's gonna cut down on rattling around as like your slide pin normally would. And it also has that nice security, the fact that it goes all the way around that kingpin. Now this is rated at 18,000 pounds, so again, it's a direct replacement for this one here. But if you have a 16,000 base, just because this is rated at 18,000, you're gonna want to go with that lower number just to stay safe. You also have that vertical limit or load of 4,500 pounds.

And that was a look at the BMW replacement head assembly for the Patriot fifth wheel.

So far this has been a great hitch. Takes up a lot less space than the massive auto slider hitch that I had previously, and have had no problem with any sharp turns so far. It is also much easier to handle by myself taking it out of the truck. The only thing I’ve had some problems with is getting the handle lock pin out once I’m ready to disconnect. To solve, I’ve started wedging the flat part of my crowbar under the head of the pin and tapping it with a rubber mallet from underneath.

This hitch is amazing. I replaced an older Reese hitch. With my old hitch there was constant shucking and could feel the trailer pushing the truck while stopping. There is no more shucking and you can “barely tell” there’s a trailer behind me anymore. The coupling and uncoupling with the cam action lever is extremely simple!

I just got it installed looking forward to connecting the trailer. But, the trailer is in the shop! I spent a lot time evaluating hitches and decided on the B&W Patriot 18K. I would like to better packing for shipping, the finish on the hitch got damaged.

I did my research on this hitch and was convinced it was the one I wanted yet I still felt the need to get some input from the pros, 2 phone calls (one to E-trailer and one to B&W) and I came away with peace of mind that the B&W was the right one for me. Best of all they did not try to up sell me to the 22k hitch two rv dealers tried to tell me I would need to safely pull the 16,500 gvwr 5th wheel I was in the process of buying. The hitch was reasonably priced, arrived in a timely manner in good condition and installation was straight forward. Bottom line I couldn’t be happier with my B&W hitch but most of all my decision to buy it from etrailer

We received the hitch and brackets packaged very well. The installation went well and pretty straight forward.
We did not have our 5th wheel to set the height but took a lucky guess at 18". We picked the RV up and couldn't be happier with this hitch. Absolutely no chucking, very smooth ride. We have an uneven slope to back down to get to our RV pad and were concerned about that. With the swivel on this hitch, backed with no problem. We wouldn't settle for any other hitch if we have to ever buy another one.
The RV sales and service people were very impressed with this hitch and the way it is set up with the frame brackets.

Haven't had a chance to tow with it yet, but everything bolted right up and it was pretty easy to install. Looks like a really nice hitch and love the fact that it's American made.

I have always had bumper pull RVs. This is my first 5th wheel and 5th wheel hitch. It took approx 5-1/2 hrs to install the rails, hitch, and 7-way extension on a '17 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel with Ramboxs. I love the construction and the "feel" of the hitch. Directions were easy to follow. I get the trailer in a couple days, so no comment on towing, but I am not anticipating any complications. Looking forward to using this hitch for years to come.

Product is well built and painted, spent 10 months with it about a block from the gulf of Mexico in the bed of my truck 24/7 and the paint hasn't faded, no parts have rusted or anything. Very impressed with build and paint quality. It also pulls smoother, and dampens a lot more than my Reese 5er did on rough roads. The Reese also began rusting and paint flaking 3 months after purchase and spent it's time in Oklahoma where the weather wasn't too harsh in comparison to the ocean air the B&W experienced in Texas. 10/10 B&W.

We really enjoy the peace of mind this hitch provides. It is secure both in the truck and hitched to our 5th wheel. As it is heavy to install and remove so that we can use our truck when not towing, we installed a hydraulic lift in our garage to lift it out and onto a cart we push to the side for storage until next time. The lift puts it back up into the truck. It's so easy to have this sturdy hitch!

Hitch arrived on time and good packaging. It took maybe 45 minutes to assemble, very easy. It would have taken less time but the bolt holes are so precise that the paint made the bolts so tight that you had to run them through with a socket but rather that than to big.

Purchased B&W Patriot 5th wheel hitch from etrailer a year ago. Received the hitch right away without any problems. etrailer.com was easy to purchase from. We were first time buyers on a 5th wheel. Had been using a new competitors hitch we bought from our dealership. Worse purchase ever. The competitor had just gotten into the 5th wheel hitch part recently. Went through 5 heads we received from the competitor and the hitch still did not work right. It would take us half an hour to an hour to hook up or unhook. Decided to take loss on hitch and buy a B &W hitch. The B & W hitch was awesome. Hooks up and unhooks in minutes. It is so easy. Would recommend B &W and etrailer anytime. The price from etrailer was great and was the cheapest price I could find anywhere. If I could have, I would have given B & W and etrailer 10 stars for the review.

This Trailer Hitch looks awesome. I really like the fact that if the jaws do not open when the handle is pulled back moving the vehicle slightly will open the jaws. My old CURT hitch (also a good hitch) jaws would not open if on uneven ground or with tension on the jaws. Also, the two part design HAS SAVE MY BACK! I do not like to readily admit this, but I'm getting old, and my old one piece 5th wheel hitch was back breaking lifting into a bed of my Chevy 3500HD long bed.

This was my first fifth wheel hitch that I have ever used or installed on my truck. It was recommended to me by other RV folks that have fifth wheels. The price for the hitch was very competitive. The customer service and support line was extremely helpful. The hitch is very easy to put in and take out of the truck. It is also very easy to hook up to my fifth wheel. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a hitch to purchase one like this because it’s easy to use and works great. They also followed up several weeks after I had it installed to make sure I had no issues and everything was working as it should. Great customer service.

Has been a very good hitch..sturdy and well designed. I like the two piece idea (where you can take off the top section separate from the bottom frame) it's easy and it allows lifting less wt. in two parts. It has 4 adjustments for height but in my case I needed to go lower so I had to reset my 5th wheel bracket as to level out the vehicle to the fifth wheel.


add; 1999 Ford f-350 4x4 sits up high ...not like today's (almost a car) pickups that sit lower.
